About RailRat.net
This website was created by a daily Pacific Surfliner rider, to while-away the commute hours and at the same time learn about Apache, CSS3, HTML5, Javascript, Node.js, SQLite3 and related technologies.
The primary design goal was ease of use on mobile devices, the target user base is fellow commuters who are actively "riding the rails" and just looking for the best train or connection to get to work or to get back home.
As stated at the bottom of the page, this site is completely unofficial and is not affiliated with Amtrak in any way.
Please send feedback and bug reports to the webmaster at this domain.
Notes
- On the route and train pages, lateness time values are displayed with a yellow background when they are between 15 and 30 minutes, and red when 30 minutes or greater. This needs to be done more intelligently, for example it doesn't make much sense for longer range trains.
- Estimated distances are as the three-eyed raven flies, not as the Amtrak train rolls.
Known Bugs
- When a service disruption occurs and train status stops updating, there is not a good indication.
- Bifurcating trains are not shown in an easily understandable format.
